Under Dark Skies, my new novel, is out today. You will find it on Amazon and in all good bookstores in Paperback format. There are (I think) also a few copies of the limited edition hardback available if you are quick.

Under Dark Skies is also available on Kindle and Kobo. My first new novel since The Dead Girl and the Wandering Tree.

"Under Dark Skies" as you may have gathered from the title is a dark work. It is a horror novel set in the modern world but harking back to earlier ages. Scotland was once a strange country, filled with religious groups, after the reformation, each seeking the true message of gods words. Some were pseudo religious; others were strict, and some did not deviate from biblical teachings. Some deviated from the norm into small religious sects, a few of which fled to the Americas, others stayed and faced whatever fortune befell them.
Earlier still, Scotland was a pagan land, often invaded. Some of those raiders stayed and tried to blend into the local populations, some successfully, others constantly hunted, living in the wild, in caves, ruins and forever forsaken. Often, they would carry with them the totems, remnants, and relics of their pagan gods for solace against the constant hardship. Scotland is an inhospitable place for its indigenous population never mind invaders.

But this book is not based in the past, though the past plays a great part in the tale. Rather, it is set now, in modern day Argyll, Scotland. It is set near the town of Lochgilphead, near to the village of Kilmartin which, for those of you who have read my books before, is often a location I use due to its historic significance and echoes of an earlier time.

But it is set now. In a land so ancient who knows what times echo leaving a fading impression on the normal everyday world. The world we live in. I will tell you no more of the story leaving you wondering how all these things come together. I have also added the cover Blurb.

This land is ancient, steeped in myth and history. Monsters, sleeping, wake. Ghosts stalk the land. Stories, legends, become real and even the warmest of loves can be shattered on the cold rock of Argyll. I woke one day, Under dark Skies, my hand on his belly, his taste on my tongue and knew that I would love him forever but sometimes forever does not last that long.

Under Dark Skies. A monstrously good read. Don’t make any assumptions. Five Stars. Anne Welsh. “The Corbie Times”

Under Dark Skies. Is all I hoped it would be. An exceptional story. Authentic characters and history. Bernard Cornwall. Author. Historian.

Under Dark Skies we live, Under Dark Skies we wake and sleep and Under Dark Skies we die.

I have nothing left to say unless anyone wishes to ask any questions about the novel. I shall leave you instead with a copy of the original cover which I preferred but no one else but me seemed to.

What’s New With Raymond Walker

As you can see from the notes above,  "Under Dark Skies" will be released on the 18th of October. Earlier for those who have funds to buy the early edition hardback. I have started doing a little pre-publication advertising and held a talk about its forthcoming release. Happily, the pre-publication reviews have been great. Comments such as "Dark and Delicious" From Lucy Briggs of "Wondrous Tales" and "A clever, accomplished Mystery" from fellow author Rob Anderson have done nothing but confirm my enthusiasm for this Book.

18th October.
Under Dark Skies.
